The witness was hiking alone in the morning about four miles from home when she entered a sunny grassy clearing. She watched a large ape-like animal leap from the woods, grab a long snake from the ground, and quickly disappear back into the trees. She immediately ran from the area and did not tell anyone about the encounter for several years.

A woman driving home in the evening saw an ape-like animal peeking from bushes about twenty feet away, which then ran on two legs into dense woods. She returned later with neighbors and from her car saw it again peering from the fork of a tree while others searched on foot. Officers from multiple agencies searched the area that night without locating the animal.
