Vocalization in Alaska

While working in the park, the guest hiked to climb a mountain via a narrow valley and detoured to check an old cabin site. He found a large well-trodden trail, a shredded willow break, and a torn-apart rotten stump, which he attributed to snow and bears at the time. On the return in a sunny open spot he heard a loud single-syllable vocal from the woods over the creek and chose to leave for the wide river bar rather than investigate.
