Possible activity experienced by campers at a popular campground in the Mount Hood National Forest
The witness and two companions camped in the Mt Hood National Forest with a barrel of animal entrails intended as bait. Over three days they reported loud screams from a nearby ridge, nighttime wood knocks, heavy steps and snapping twigs, and found their camp table apparently bitten through. They moved the bait pile away from camp, later found most of it missing with a wet sweet dog-like odor at the site.

The witness and a companion were hiking back up a forested trail in the evening when they heard loud branch-breaking sounds, saw bushes sway, and smelled a strong garbage-like odor. After the forest went quiet, the witness turned and saw a very large, dark reddish-brown, ape-faced head peering over vegetation, which watched curiously for a few seconds before moving behind a tree. The companion heard the sounds and smelled the odor but did not see the figure, and the pair quickly returned to their vehicle.

They stopped at the crossing point and searched the uphill slope, where the witness found and videotaped an 18-inch barefoot-like track in moss along with other partial marks, and heard something noisy move away through the forest.

A very tall dark hairy biped stepped into a small clearing about 20 yards away, looked at the witness, then turned and left into the tree line. Near a turn the tracks stopped, snow clumps rolled down an embankment and brush moved as if something had just jumped uphill, and the pair left quickly.

They heard something crashing away into brush and found a corral-post tree snapped over with large human-like footprints around its base. They concluded the prints were not from a bear and later wiped them out while telling other family members it was a bear.

While rowing around an island they heard splashing and then found a line of very large, deep, human-like footprints in shallow mud where an animal had exited the water. Neither the witness, then a youth experienced with tracks, nor his expert-tracker grandfather could identify the maker, and the trail was lost in forest litter.

The witness was scouting remote mountain roads for fishing access when he found a newly placed stacked rock pile blocking the road. After stopping to inspect it, he heard something charge down the steep slope toward him and stop when he drew his pistol, then parallel him back to his vehicle unseen. He returned later with a hunting partner and heard coordinated whoops from multiple positions, and a few days later with a larger group found extensive tree damage, possible structures, and three sizes of bare human-like tracks.

He noticed something staying still in the trees, shouted with no response, then saw a large dark mass moving through and violently shaking the trees. He fired shotgun slugs while retreating about 100 feet as the mass kept pace inside the treeline, and believes he must have hit it.
