Chicken pens being raided by unknown thief near Nevada City
A neighbor's chicken coop was raided at night and the birds were taken whole with no remains left. The witness, who also keeps birds, visited the coop to learn how to reinforce their own enclosure and found wire mesh bent and compressed in a way they felt required great strength. The witness collected hair samples from the scene for analysis, which were later reported to be mountain lion hair.
Man recalls daytime sighting in a canyon outside Nevada City
Two companions were pushing their bicycles up a steep old mining road when they heard crashing from across a canyon. They watched a tall dark-haired biped run down the opposite slope toward them, snapping small trees in its path. Frightened, they fled uphill on their bikes until they neared the top and lost sight and sound of it.
Couple see large footprint near Emigrant Gap
The witness states her husband found a large human-like print in soft dust beside a dirt road while cutting firewood and drove her about 20 miles to see it. She states she viewed a clear print about 15 inches long with five toes. No creature itself was reported seen.
