A woman hunting with her husband from under pine trees across a meadow noticed a dark figure that had not been there minutes earlier. She watched it through binoculars for about 15 minutes, seeing yellow eyes looking back, before leaving for camp without telling her husband why. Her husband, positioned nearby, did not see the figure but reported smelling something awful at the same time.
Loud Echoing Howls Heard by Hikers in the Trinity Alps

Late at night while sleeping on sand bars beside the river with a companion, the witness was awakened by limping bipedal footsteps moving on the slope above. A flashlight revealed nothing and the steps resumed, approaching close before loud guttural yelps and moaning described as a cry for help were heard. After remaining awake and still for an extended period the witnesses fell asleep, later heard a large splash in the river, and found no tracks in the morning.

They heard repeated rising whoop vocalizations that seemed about a mile away and grew louder as they continued. The surrounding forest was described as unusually quiet. Frightened, the group left the area immediately.

From about a half-mile away on a riverbed, the witness heard a very loud scream from the forest to the north believed to be in the same area.
Witness heard a large animal moving in the forest
While mountain biking, the witness heard a large animal moving in brush off the trail but could not see it. About 200 yards farther up the trail, the group found very large detailed footprints overlying companions' tracks, which left the trail for a meadow and reappeared crossing the road about half a mile farther on. Coincidentally encountered bear hunters also examined the prints and were unfamiliar with them.

The footfalls sounded clearly bipedal and the unseen mover easily kept pace through steep, brushy terrain. A group camping above a swollen river heard mumbling voices and stick-breaking approaching, followed by loud chanting, shouting and stomping that shook a log seat and was taken as a demand to leave. The sounds stopped after deep hooted calls and later receded to distant screams up the valley and across the mountain. Later, while in a tent, the witness saw the firelight blocked by a squatting silhouette that touched the zipper with five digits, with felt breath and strong odor, before withdrawing. In the morning the witness noted hairs and deep depressions on the trail.

The witness was sitting outdoors with four companions late at night when a distant loud howl-like sound repeated several times, each lasting about 15 seconds. A second prolonged echoing sound resembling garbled speech then continued for about five minutes. Nearby dogs across the lake began barking after the second sound started.

The witness was working on a bicycle on the back porch late at night when a low guttural growl/hoot was heard from an estimated 100 to 200 feet away between the residence and up the road. The sound lasted several seconds, rose in pitch, and did not resemble known local wildlife, while nearby dogs did not react. The witness retrieved a handgun and flashlight to search but found nothing unusual, with ground too dry to hold tracks.

The witness and his wife spent a weekend camping in 1994 at Laguna Mountain where the campground was empty. At night they heard wolf-like howls and the next day on a desert trail they found crossed dead trees, heard loud animal cries, and watched a distant reddish hair-covered figure standing and slamming backward into a tree, which they first took for a bear. A ranger insisted there were no wolves or bears in the area. On the second night rustling around the tent and sudden overwhelming fear caused them to abandon camp and drive home in the early morning.

Two people walking on a forest road toward a historic cabin heard the forest go quiet and then heard a scream from the brush without seeing its source. They reported feeling watched and experiencing intense fear that left them unable to move or speak for several minutes. Once normal forest sounds resumed they felt able to leave, continued to their destination, and passed the same spot on the return without further incident.

The witness was trying to sleep in a van while two companions slept in a tent nearby. The van began rocking violently from side to side until the witness yelled, then the witness shone a flashlight outside and saw a hair-covered figure walking upright past the vehicle into the forest. A foul cesspool-like odor was noticed around the camp, and the companions said pebbles had been tossed onto their tent and something had brushed against it. The group built a fire, discussed what happened, and packed up to leave early.
