The witness parked by a river to fish for steelhead on a rainy winter afternoon and heard two loud whoop-like bellows. While wading downstream the witness saw two tall, hair-covered figures standing motionless across the river and noticed a cocoon-like bundle of grass on a root wad. After fishing back upstream the witness looked back to find the figures and object gone, and a return visit the next day was blocked by flooding.

The witness and his father were camping overnight in a canyon campsite. After dinner while sitting at the campfire they heard a distant loud howl from toward the canyon entrance that was answered by a whoop from behind camp. The two sounds continued in call-and-response for about 10-15 minutes and seemed to move closer and shift position, prompting them to load their guns. The sounds then stopped, and fresh snow overnight prevented any track search the next morning.

Shortly after graduation the witness and three friends camped overnight in a vacant house and were tormented by whistles and loud bangs on windows all night. They found the house completely destroyed when they returned the next day. On a dusk return with shotguns they saw trailers upslope, heard the whistle again, and a large rock was thrown at them, prompting gunfire before they fled.

The sounds first came from a distant ridge and about an hour later came from much closer down the road, waking many others in camp.
