At age 15 the guest was fishing alone at a creek near his father's house when he heard whoops and saw a large hairy figure behind a sycamore. He confronted it with a .22 rifle, and after it growled and roared he shot it in the throat, then in the hand, then multiple times in the chest as it screamed, broke saplings, and ran straight through a barbed-wire fence across a hay meadow. Later that day his father found broken trees, blood and hair on the sycamore, and blood and hair on the broken fence wires.

Two seasons before the main encounter, the witness got lost after dark in rainy conditions and followed a creek bed to exit. He walked close to unseen animals that scattered with unusual grunts, then heard what sounded like several two-legged walkers flanking him on both banks before they stopped behind him. Alone, the husband boated eight miles up a river, padlocked the boat, and camped. After falling asleep he heard large splashes like rocks hitting water, then excited monkey-like gibberish chattering. Too afraid to leave the tent, he slept with a gun across his chest and never returned.

The guest's husband and three or four companions slept in a large tent after gigging near Jay. Something circled the camp screaming. No one went out to look, and they later asked a game warden, who suggested elk.

From the driveway the witness watched her husband drive a tractor to the edge of the 29 acres and heard distinct knocks mocking and following his movement, including a third knock at the clear cut. He could not hear them over the tractor. She found the daytime sequence frightening.

Over time the witness heard voices from the forest mocking her calling her dog Buster, mocking a French bulldog bark, calling her husband's name, and later singing Bella in a high sing-song with gibberish. One Bella episode was captured on a recorder in the garage while the dog barked at the fenceline.
