Later that hunting season he shot a deer, hung it in a tree, and slept in the stand. He awoke in the middle of the night to grunting and a small hairy figure trying to take the hung deer, yelled thinking it was a person stealing, then saw it flee on all fours into the moonlight.

Unable to sleep, the witness heard three long howls from different directions across the valley, described as similar to a known Ohio recording but longer. The companions reportedly did not hear the sounds, and no further howls occurred that night.
