Three companions camping on Mt. Graham heard a loud unidentified scream two or three times around 10 pm. Later that night around 2-3 am they heard heavy bipedal footsteps in pine needles moving behind their tent, but saw nothing when they looked out. No tracks were found the next morning due to pine needle cover.

While archery deer hunting on a trail in the morning, the witness reported feeling watched before seeing a creature walking rapidly toward him down the same trail. The creature approached for several seconds before turning off the trail and disappearing over a ridge about 70-80 yards away. The witness followed to the ridge top but left after hearing a grunt-like sound.

They listened for about half an hour as the two sources called back and forth and shifted position, then retreated to their truck after hearing rocks trickle down the slope, hearing the sounds move north before dawn. In the morning the witness saw a trail crossing the campsite, and years later both the witness and the former spouse said the sounds matched a published recording labeled 'Scream.'

Two forestry workers finishing a pre-dawn spotted owl survey heard a loud, deep yell lasting about five seconds from a canyon below them. In mid-winter 1979, the witness and about five other children were playing outside in snow around midnight during a heavy snowfall on the Navajo reservation in northeastern Arizona.
