Something came out of the river about fifty feet away, walked upright and dark like a bear but with rounded primate ears. It moved branches with a hand, sniffed his incoming trail, then angled off. He was terrified and did not tell his father for years.

While on a solo night escape-and-evasion march at Fort Jackson, the witness stopped at a fire-lane crossing around 2 a.m. in total darkness. Something approached, moved away after being challenged, made growling talk-like sounds, then approached again before crashing away through brush. Startled, the witness ran and eventually reached another soldier with a fire and truck.

Later that night rocks were thrown at the trailer damaging a fan and siding, and next morning bent van metal, foot impressions, feathers and a missing chicken were found.
