After stopping and stepping a short distance from the vehicle, the men heard an extremely loud prolonged roar that rose from low to high and felt it in the chest. They saw nothing, aborted the outing, drove down while scanning the treeline, and the friendship later ended after the friend refused to discuss it.

After she dropped a wood-box lid, she heard a strange deep whoop with a high pitch, and he heard the tail end as he came outside. Her mother later said she had heard the same noise every few years since the 1950s.
