Hiking family has daytime encounter in Sierra
The witness and two relatives were hiking down from high lakes in the afternoon when they saw a large dark figure moving rapidly across a distant meadow on the far side of a river. The figure appeared to glide smoothly without bobbing, paused briefly when shouted at, then continued away and disappeared. The witnesses went down to the meadow edge but could not relocate it.

The witness stepped onto the porch with two dogs for a cigarette when a very loud yell/scream was heard from the woods edge. The dogs ran about sniffing without barking while the witness got a light and gun, shouted a warning, then heard a second scream deeper in the woods that drew the dogs in for several minutes. The witness's wife also heard the sound from inside the house with windows closed.

Five people were camping near a river when they heard heavy, slow movement in nearby brush shortly after starting to cook. The brush noise was heard twice and stopped when approached. Later around 11 p.m. while sitting around the fire they heard brief distant screaming that they felt was not directed at them and may have been communication between distant animals.

About two years before reporting, the witness was riding a bicycle with a companion on a rural county road near Calhoun, just over the line into Walker County. From woods bordering fields the witness heard several loud sounds like heavy wood knocks echoing. The witness first assumed construction in the woods but later thought the sounds could have been a Sasquatch because the area was only woods and fields. The companion did not notice the sounds and the witness has not returned to the area.

The witness and a child sat in a parked pickup with windows down near a night listening location. After waiting, they heard a prolonged clamor of fighting coyotes uphill with a distinct human- or ape-like yowling mixed in lasting about 45 seconds. The witness believed others near the blasting area recorded the sounds and later said several participants agreed they had heard something other than a known animal.

Near dawn a very tall hair-covered female-like figure stood by the tent and walked rapidly toward the witness despite additional warning shots, then ran away over granite and out of sight. A logging crew traveling in a crew wagon encountered a large hair-covered biped standing in the road. The creature looked at them, then walked off on two legs while giving an elk-like scream. After the crew exited the vehicle they noticed a strong sweaty odor and heard it crashing through brush into dense forest. They radioed a supervisor about law enforcement follow-up, but no one arrived.

The witness was walking down a dirt road on company property in deep woods when he heard rustling in brush about thirty yards away and smelled a strong skunk-like odor. After stopping, shouting, and resuming walking to a gate and back, he heard quiet whooping vocalizations from behind that grew louder as he moved away. He did not see the source and first considered wild hogs before later considering something unidentified.

A large backpacking group was camped in timber near a lake and preparing for the day's hike. They heard several loud whooping vocalizations coming from up the trail and initially assumed another hiking group was nearby. They later found no sign of other visitors in the area and noted an absence of small wildlife.

The witness and two companions explored a deforested and mined area with piled boulders and abandoned mine buildings. Over about an hour they heard tapping from the woods, running footfalls, crashing in brush, and other strange noises, while stones were reportedly thrown toward the companions. They also found many snapped trees and a very large mound of possible scat that a tossed rock sank into.

Late Saturday night the witness sat around a campfire at the edge of the woods with two companions and heard footsteps moving inside the woods. They shined a flashlight toward the sound and it stopped, then resumed moving away after the light was turned off. No source was seen.

The witness was family camping below Huntington Reservoir. Late at night on two consecutive nights, the witness and their father sat by the campfire and heard long moaning howls repeating for over an hour. The sounds seemed to come from a distant opposite ridge from at least two different directions.

The witness and relatives were sleeping in a tent at an abandoned family homesite. In darkness the witness heard bipedal footsteps approach, contact and scratch the rain cover and disturb stakes, then heard a second set of footsteps nearby and distant rock-clicking sounds. After triggering a vehicle alarm, a branch broke as something walked away. In the morning the witness found a footprint-like mark, lifted stakes, and bent trees.

The witness was camping overnight in a tent after fishing. During the night the witness woke and heard two loud, unfamiliar vocalizations from the east, several seconds long and seconds apart, then silence. Two companions sleeping in a car did not hear the sounds.

A couple went outside to smoke in the early morning and saw a small furry creature on all fours and a tall two-legged figure near a bush. After the husband turned on vehicle lights, they saw another figure drop from a tree and crouch by a chair, then heard growls and watched a figure run upright across a field. They smelled a brief skunk-like odor and found their dogs unusually silent, concluding multiple creatures were present to divert attention.

Around 11 p.m. while relaxing at camp, they heard a strange loon-like sound ending in a growl, followed about ten seconds later by another distant growl. Both found the sounds unfamiliar, and the companion later admitted the sound had unsettled him.

The witness and a companion parked in a small forest clearing at night to watch the sky. They heard three loud raspy screams, each followed by three rhythmic deep thuds in the ground. After waiting silently in the car, they heard further rustling and an unspecified sound before driving down and sleeping by the road.

The witness was outside early in the morning when dogs a few blocks away began barking fiercely. A loud, ape-like howl then joined in and at times drowned out the dogs. The vocal exchange lasted several minutes before stopping. The witness did not see the source and did not know if anyone else heard it.
