A vocal sound from behind startled the first creature to standing and revealed a second taller creature close behind the witness. The witness ran away through the woods to the path and was not followed.

Afternoon sighting in hills between Oakland and Sutherlin
The witness and a friend were hiking on logging roads when they paused for a restroom break and the witness walked a short way back down the road. The witness saw a big, hairy, dark figure coming down a steep embankment upright with heavy thumping steps and crashing brush. After the witness screamed the figure stopped and looked toward them, and both hikers ran away shouting about a bear.

The companion later heard loud thumping steps and saw an entity running away up the mountain.
