Family reports several encounters over several months on the outskirts of Scio
Late at night the witness took a puppy on a leash toward the woodline behind the house and heard shuffling in the brush. A very tall, very wide dark figure stood up nearby, showing a lighter chest or stomach area in the moonlight. The witness screamed and ran inside, after which relatives went out with a light and reported seeing a large two-legged shadow run up the brushy hill and disappear while staying just out of sight.

A family camping at a wooded campsite was awakened around 4 a.m. by strange calling sounds and heavy footsteps behind their tent. After shouting, they heard heavy stomping retreat into the woods and fled to their car. They returned later that morning, heard heavy breathing and had a stick thrown toward them before retreating again, later finding disturbed garbage and an opened food packet before leaving.

The next night near dumpsters by the river, the group heard angry gorilla-like grunting and recorded the last 30 seconds as the East Central Ohio Bigfoot Chatter. The witness and a companion were training a hunting dog at night when the dog became spooked and refused to enter the woods. They then heard a loud deep shriek from nearby and saw the outline of a huge hairy figure at least seven feet tall walk through a clearing.

Two boys camping on a wooded ridge left their tent in the early morning and noticed a large bipedal shape moving in nearby trees. They watched it stand and observe them from about 30 feet away but could only discern a dark, fur-covered outline in low light. Frightened, they returned to the tent. Around dawn they heard a strange howling from down the ridge that did not sound like a dog or coyote.

The witness and two companions were night-hiking on railroad tracks beside a swamp when they heard a distant high scream and later a much louder close roar. A very large two-legged silhouette with swinging arms and a massive torso then charged through the swamp water toward them. The group fled back toward their car and saw the figure stop at the swamp edge and not follow onto the tracks.

Late at night the witness left a friend's house to walk a short distance home and heard rustling and branches breaking behind him. While running he heard a loud high-pitched scream he did not recognize. He paused at his doorway and watched a large dark figure part pine trees and come over a fence in streetlight before fleeing inside.

The witness visited a friend's farm after loaning a truck and found a very large footprint in mud, attempting a plaster cast. Later he saw a dark figure bobbing while holding a tree limb across a field, then saw a hairy long hand touching the plaster. The friend confirmed seeing the distant figure and the friend's wife reported hearing breathing near a shed, followed by rustling and barefoot sounds.

Two companions were pushing their bicycles up a steep driveway at night after visiting a neighbor. A large silhouette crossed the driveway entrance twice, then stopped at the top, looked at them and gave a short grunt. Frightened, they dropped their bikes and ran back to the house, later retrieving the bikes with the neighbor's help and riding home.

A teenager and an older neighbor spent the night on a boat at a marina to catch suspected vandals. During the night the teenager saw a huge hair-covered figure crouched at an overturned trashcan scooping garbage, then stand upright and stare briefly. The figure stepped over the trashcan, sprang up an embankment, and disappeared into brush, leaving disturbed dew, strewn garbage, and broken brush.

The witness, then a child, arrived home at night when car headlights lit a large hairy figure standing at a mowed corridor into the woods. He got out for a better look while puppies cried nearby, his sister joined him, then his father shouted for them to stop and the figure crossed the opening and thrashed away loudly. The next day they found puppies in the woods and knocked-down vegetation with limbs broken high up.
Growl in Ohio
Shortly after high school the witness and his cousin camped beside a river after hauling kayaks and a towed canoe uphill. In the night the witness heard steps and a loud growl beside the tent and saw a large dark shadow in moonlight. Next day belongings were scattered, food was gone, and the heavy canoe was up in a tree.
