After hearing a distant splash and nearby snapping limbs, the witness saw a massive ape-like animal running away while grunting. The animal disappeared into the swamp, leaving a strong musk smell. They then heard whooping sounds off and on for about two hours and reported that the whoops answered when they imitated them. They also reported a foul garbage-like odor.

Shortly after midnight the witness walked past his front door on the way to the bathroom and noticed a tall, hair-covered figure standing at the bottom of his front steps. He estimated it at about 8 feet tall and as wide as his steps, with long arms and no visible neck or facial features. He turned to grab a camera but the figure was gone when he looked back, and he saw nothing when he opened the door and turned on the porch light. Shortly afterward he heard repeated deep rumbling sounds described as like thunder from inside the house.

Several children playing outside exchanged yelps and whistles with an unseen source that sounded progressively closer, moving from the mountaintop to the woods' edge. When a boy took a hunting dog to the treeline, the dog stayed silent with raised tail and ears, stopped, and refused to advance. An adult also noted a foul smell during the few-minute interaction, after which the sounds stopped.

While commuting to work in the morning, the witness pulled over to watch what they first thought was a bear sitting under a large pecan tree. After noticing a strong foul odor, they watched the animal stand, walk to the tree on two feet, and shake pecans from it. After the witness honked, the animal froze, turned to look, made a loud screeching noise, and ran quickly into the woods.

The witness, a teenager on a deer-hunting trip on private wooded land in North Carolina, was waiting in a tree stand in the morning when he noticed a strong bad odor and then heard twigs snapping. He watched the upper half of a large dark-furred creature about 50 yards away standing in one spot eating leaves for several minutes before it walked away while still audible. When companions arrived he recounted the sighting and they suggested it was a bear, which he rejected because he had seen a bear earlier that day.
