A large dark-furred animal crouched and then fled rapidly through brush and up a slope over railroad tracks while the dog chased briefly. They saw it from behind running upright but hunched, described as bear-sized and gorilla-like, then left after hearing crunching behind them.

Hearing further growls and large branches breaking, the group left quickly for their vehicle.

After the dog returned frightened and stayed close, the pair tried to walk out in darkness with failing lights. For an hour or two they heard something large circling them with heavy footfalls and crashing vegetation and small trees breaking nearby, but they never saw the source.

Nearly two decades earlier, the witness was rowing back to a rocky campsite at the end of the lake near a creek at dusk with his dog after fishing for trout. The dog alerted toward shore, and the witness watched several small trees bend down in succession as if pulled from the top and snap back, progressing toward the campsite with no heavy footsteps but a low humming vibration that was felt more than heard. He rowed in to check, found no tracks, broken brush, or animal, only two old swan carcasses nearby, and spent a quiet night.

The witness and four companions were camped overnight on a ridge between a lake and a swampy area. Between about 1 and 4 a.m. they heard repeated loud screeching calls that approached from a distance to within tens of yards and circled their camp, sometimes accompanied by breaking branches but never revealing a source when lights were shone. After about three hours the sounds receded the way they had come, and the group left at first light without finding tracks.

The witness was hunting at dawn when something moved in a half-circle around the position to get downwind. Once downwind it gave an ear-ringing scream followed by grunts for about two minutes, then left into very thick cover. When the witness was about seven, the family found very large footprints on a Lake Superior beach. While leaving through the woods toward the car they heard loud screeching and something large jumping nearby without being seen. They left quickly in the car, with the witness feeling the source was too big to be people.

The witness and a companion were bowhunting deer from separate ground positions near a creek and swamp. The witness heard quiet rustling behind a small hill, then a large tree shook violently and a loud roar/scream sounded. The witness fled to the truck, met waiting officers, and returned with them to retrieve the companion, who had also heard the scream and seen deer flee. The group left the woods together without explanation for the sound.
