It did not flee but rocked side to side, screamed extremely loudly, and stepped toward them. They left when another truck approached. A tow truck driver was loading a car that had struck an elk late at night when he heard a deep grunt. He shone a light and saw an upright creature dragging the dead elk one-handed by the antlers through deep snow into a drainage. Four people were coon hunting at night when their dog-tracking signal failed and dogs became frightened and quit hunting. The group heard repeated loud groaning and wailing howls that they estimated came from about fifty yards away. They recovered the dogs and left the area feeling intimidated and unwelcome.
