Memory told of hearing possible daytime knocking while working as a Fire Guard in the Pasayten Wilderness
After finishing a tour at a wilderness lookout in 1949, the witness hiked out along a wide, flat trail. From about 100-150 yards to the right, the witness heard several loud impacts described as long dry posts striking tree stumps. No loggers or campers were known to be in the area, and the witness found the sounds unlike anything previously heard in the woods.

When the witness was a child living in a remote wooded valley, pounding on wood drew a sibling indoors and the family went outside to listen. From the driveway they heard loud guttural roaring together with continued pounding for several minutes on a clear calm evening. The main witness was sleeping in the front room of a remote lakeside cabin with a relative when she awoke at night to the porch screen door opening and footsteps. She watched a large, red-haired, bipedal figure pass three front windows and pause at the door to peer inside, bending down to look in. Frightened, she fled to sleep with her grandparents and did not speak of the incident for years.

In 1936 a night watchman found a strange creature digging in a burial mound. It stood on its hind legs and ran off. On a second night it stood again and uttered syllables sounding like Gadara before running off. He told only his wife, then his son when he thought he was dying.

Five miners in 1924 reported poltergeist-like activity around their mine and cabin, including voices, machinery sounds, an apported pencil and isolated footprints. After one miner reportedly shot a creature, several creatures allegedly attacked the cabin at night throwing rocks and trying to enter. Only left footprints were reported the next morning.

In the years before the cabin was built the group heard strange whistling between ridges and were ordered to carry guns away from camp. During the first mining year they found a very large track in sand near the creek. These signs preceded the later shootings and night attack.

In 1904 near Sixes miners reported a wild man seen three times in three weeks. Two men heard something walk around and shake their cabin corner, heard a frightful noise, saw it walk away, shot and missed. Later a similar visit at dawn ended with the creature hurling a four-pound rock after being shot at.

Miners reported a seven-foot hairy wild man repeatedly shaking cabins at night and making frightful noise. Shots failed to stop it. On one morning it shook a door, was shot at, and retaliated by throwing a four-pound rock before vanishing.

A group of youngsters skating on a river encountered an 8-foot hair-covered creature that yelled and brandished a large club. They fled on skates to their wagons and escaped. Tracks found later away from the river were 22 inches long with four toes.

A town selectman chasing a lost hog stopped in a clearing to pick blackberries. He saw a naked, hair-covered figure weighing about 180 pounds. The figure noticed him, made an unfamiliar sound, bounded over bushes, and disappeared.
Vocalizations heard from creature seen by witness
A father and son were returning from an unsuccessful hunting trip when the father stopped by a fallen tree to light his pipe and saw a tall hairy unclothed figure standing nearby. The figure vocalized loudly after noticing the man, then walked quickly toward the woods. The son joined his father and both watched the first figure and a second slightly smaller one walk along the woods edge before disappearing into the trees.

A party out driving with horses through a hill pass had a lead horse become unmanageable and show terror as a wild cry came from the thicket, refusing to pass. Local farmers also reported livestock depredations and peculiar footprints in snow that searchers could not resolve. The newspaper presented the story without conclusion.
