The witness and a companion were camped at Surprise Lake at dusk when they heard patterned knocks and rock-on-tree sounds. After the witness threw a rock against a tree and heard a similar sound returned, they saw a large brownish-red animal squatted and swaying behind a tree upslope. They attempted blurry photos while knocks were heard from behind the camp and from the animal's direction before leaving at first light.

The witness camped overnight in a tent at a shelter along the Allegheny Trail. At dawn he was awakened by stones clacking together that moved back and forth north to south for an extended period. He shouted from inside the tent, after which he heard no further movement.

In May/June 2012 around 10:30 p.m. the witness and a relative heard a loud guttural vocalization outside the home. They went to the porch and watched a large dark furry animal low to the ground run on all fours past a neighboring home, triggering motion lights. Coyotes vocalized shortly afterward, and another relative later said the sound had awakened them.

In June 2012 the witness was awakened at home by a relative who reported loud whisper-like sounds around the house. The witness then heard the sounds, described as loud whispering resembling unintelligible foreign language or gibberish. Later both heard knocks and rocks striking their tent for about an hour until a large rock tore the tent roof. Next morning they found partial prints and fresh bark damage before leaving.

The witness and a companion were in bed at a rented cabin late at night when their dogs became agitated and then unusually quiet. A companion heard heavy breathing just beside the front door in the dark and noticed a strong musky odor. After preparing a light, they found large wet footprints crossing the porch, and the dogs remained unsettled all night.
