The witness walked out at night to bring food to his son and a friend camping behind his house. After seeing coyotes run past the camp, he heard a deep growl from a leaf-covered deadfall about 20 yards away on his walk back that he felt in his chest and did not think was a coyote.

A few years before the interview the guest walked a forest road at night in deep East Texas to see if an animal would follow him. After hiding by cane and waiting between pines, he fired his thermally sighted rifle at a heat signature following him. The animal screamed loudly, crashed through brush and splashed across a creek, and was tracked for two days with no blood or hair found.

On his first trip to the Louisiana area the guest sat all night in a tripod stand over a clear-cut meadow on a fence line. About midnight he heard heavy bipedal footsteps approach from behind without a light, then cross a barbed-wire fence. Loud clicking began and was answered from both sides as the animals moved away through brush.

Several months to a year later the guest hunted overnight from a high climbing stand in the same Louisiana bottoms, about a few hundred yards away. The woods stayed unusually silent until about 3 or 4 a.m., when he heard what sounded like rain in one spot under clear skies. He later concluded an animal above him in another tree had urinated.

The witness and a companion were deer hunting in the evening from a ground blind and a nearby tree stand in wooded ravines. The woods went silent before heavy footsteps that could be felt, grunting sounds, and two large trees falling without wind occurred. The pair left early without seeing the source.

Earlier in the same season the group was camped overnight in a basin while elk hunting. Something circled the camp at night and frightened guard dogs that normally showed no fear. A few days later the witness was counting cattle in the morning when he noticed a huge upright figure between a barn and a tree across the field. The figure grunted, swiped and broke a large branch, then walked away. The witness later returned with others and estimated the branch height at about eight to nine feet.

At night they repeatedly heard a loud, strange vocalization that seemed to approach the tent and vibrate in their chests, accompanied by a strong rancid odor.
