During a week-long military field exercise, the witness spent the final night alone in a forward foxhole on guard duty. Around 2 a.m. he heard loud bipedal footfalls pass his position, followed by a strong putrid odor. About 45 minutes later he heard a distant loud scream. He saw nothing and remained at his post until morning, when the odor still lingered.

Two hikers ascended from Lake Chelan toward Cub Lake on a sunny summer afternoon. After entering the lake basin they repeatedly heard large trees falling nearby about every two minutes and felt the ground thud, with about five falls on the way in and five more while leaving. They never saw any trees fall or anything unusual. Feeling unsafe, they turned back and descended to camp, interpreting the sounds as something trying to drive them away.

The witness was camped with a companion, a child relative and a dog at a campground. During a daytime hike the dog became reluctant to continue and stayed close, and the witness noticed rustling in brush. Late that night the dog barked and dug frantically at the closed tent door, then after voices inside the tent heavy two-footed footsteps were heard running away.

Three young people were walking along a logging road after being dropped off from a truck. From about 10 yards downhill they heard vegetation rustling followed by an extremely loud, guttural, high-pitched yell that did not match any known local animal to them. Frightened, they ran about a mile back to the truck without looking back.

The witness and spouse were tent-camping off a trail on an overnight backpacking trip when both were awakened by extremely heavy bipedal footsteps approaching in short bursts with pauses. After several approaches the witness screamed, and the walker immediately took two leaping steps away and left. At daylight they found no tracks in the dry conditions and left after a comparison stomping test sounded far lighter.

Three people were walking in dense young pines near an airport when they noticed a strong foul odor. Minutes later they heard a loud scream they did not recognize, followed by loud branch-breaking and stomping. The source stayed in the trees and followed them noisily as they ran to the runway and continued toward a terminal building and their car after dark.

The witness and a companion spent the night in a rustic cabin after hiking during the day. After falling asleep, the witness awoke to repeated series of strange cries from a distance that sounded closer with each new series over about an hour. The companion slept through the sounds and the witness heard nothing similar before or since.
Man recalls seeing a strange bipedal animal during his one and only hunting trip
The witness, then 15, was squirrel hunting with two relatives in forested hills when he descended into a hollow and saw a dark brown creature sitting on a large rock. The creature stood on two legs and ran off quickly while walking noises were heard on both sides and a strong odor filled the air. The group left the area shortly after at the father's urging.

The witness was on night shift at an isolated gravel pit and walked up the hill to the porta potty during a break on a bright moonlit night. He mistook an approaching figure for a co-worker, hid to startle him, then came face to face at about 15 feet with a very large hairy biped that grunted, producing a visible cloud of breath. The creature walked into the bush and snapped a large branch, the witness fled down to the crusher, drove to town, and later returned with his friend to find a torn branch and large spaced steps leading to a ledge.

The witness and two young relatives were riding three-wheelers by a creek and had dismounted to walk through woods when they encountered a strong sewage-like odor followed by a loud guttural roar. Frightened, they left their vehicles and ran uphill to the family residence. Family members who returned to the site with them still noticed the odor but found no source.

As a young man living his first night in a mobile home on Boggy Creek with no power or heat, the witness heard a loud cry-yell in winter cold. Aware of the Boggy Creek legend, he believed it was the monster. He packed and moved out the next day.

The guest was out in the woods with about five friends on three-wheelers and four-wheelers late at night. The group heard noises and knocks, shone flashlights, and all reportedly saw figures the guest called Bigfoot. The others fled while the guest stayed briefly unafraid before leaving.

A teenager was with family and guards at a salvage yard at night when they noticed a silhouetted figure. A flashlight revealed red eyes and it screamed at them; a deputy started to draw a weapon but was stopped. Footprints and hair fibers were found the next morning, followed by media attention and trackers finding bedding and a trail.

At age 13 or 14 the witness was deer hunting with his father on reclaimed coal land. After hearing his father fire three aimed shots, he walked to a holler and heard speech-like chatter, then two quadrupedal hairy animals burst from brush and ran toward him. He fired three times without hitting them, then learned his father had also seen and shot at the same two animals.
Footsteps near Sisters, Oregon (1985)
Four companions camped at the dead-end to grouse hunt and heard huge bipedal footsteps approach the tents at night despite shouting and warnings. They fired many shotgun shells as the sounds circled just inside the treeline. Driving out, headlights revealed a very tall human-like figure by a tree; next morning they found collapsed tents, sticks, and footprints circling camp and reported it to the ranger station.

During deer season the witness shot a large buck, gutted it, and left briefly to meet companions at a rock bluff. Hearing talking at the kill site, he returned to find the whole deer and gut pile gone except blood. He tracked a single line of footprints deeper into the wilderness for a mile or more before losing them.

While scouting alone off the dead-end road, the witness heard a deer run past and then heard loud talking nearby that sounded like a foreign language. He whistled and the voices whistled back, then moved and went silent when he approached. He found no one there and later learned his companions had not made the sounds.

The witness was collecting firewood on a relative's land in southern Maine in the summer of 1985. After hearing an unspecified noise behind them twice, the witness turned and saw an entity standing about 30 feet away watching them. The witness then left the area quickly.
Night hunters hear strange screams in the woods
Two people stood on a hilltop field at night imitating owls to elicit responses. Instead they heard a loud scream or moan from toward the river, heard it again closer after calling again, then heard something large moving quickly uphill through the woods toward them. They retreated to their truck, drove toward the gate, and heard additional screams from the woods and hayfield.
