Hunting party hears vocalization, wood knocks; finds elk carcass, off Gold Camp Road near Victor, in Pike Nat'l Forest
While guiding two clients and accompanied by his wife on an elk hunt, the witness reported hearing a low guttural vocalization that he did not recognize as elk or bear. After moving to an aspen grove, the group heard loud repeated knocking sounds likened to logs or sticks hitting trees. The next day after snowfall, the witness returned and found a fresh cow elk carcass with its chest torn open and large indistinct tracks with a long stride nearby.

The witness was camping with family at a secluded wooded site and sleeping in a tent when awakened during the night. Through the tent screen the witness saw a tall, dark, hair-covered bipedal silhouette standing a short distance away, which stood still briefly before turning and walking away toward a field out of view. The witness told family the next morning and later searched the field but found no trace.

While camping and sleeping in a camper trailer with family and companions, the young witness awoke at night to loud heavy breathing outside her window and indistinct chatter-like sounds moving along the window. She pulled back the curtain and saw a dark-skinned partial face with brown eyes inches away staring in. The sounds stopped shortly after, and the next morning the adults found apples and potatoes missing from the back of the truck.
