Whoops and knocks at campground near Julian
While camping near town, the reporter waited outside a restroom before dawn and heard a loud tree knock from the north. Shortly after returning to the trailer, the reporter and a companion heard a single whoop from the east, followed by a brief burst of calling jays. Later that morning the group heard additional knocks and whoops from the west, southeast, and south.

The witness was camping with his wife and sister-in-law when he was awakened around 3:14 a.m. to accompany his wife to the restroom. While preparing to leave the tent he heard 4 or 5 loud wood-knock-like sounds spaced a few seconds apart, followed by faint voice-like gibberish with grunts. His sister-in-law later confirmed she also heard the knocking sounds.
Howl near Mount Laguna, California (1994)
The witness and his wife spent a weekend camping in 1994 at Laguna Mountain where the campground was empty. At night they heard wolf-like howls and the next day on a desert trail they found crossed dead trees, heard loud animal cries, and watched a distant reddish hair-covered figure standing and slamming backward into a tree, which they first took for a bear. A ranger insisted there were no wolves or bears in the area. On the second night rustling around the tent and sudden overwhelming fear caused them to abandon camp and drive home in the early morning.
Camper on Mount Palomar reports heavy biped running through campground late at night
About 1988 the witness and a companion were tent camping on Palomar Mountain. Late at night while settled in the tent, the witness heard fast, very heavy footsteps run through camp. The companion slept through the noise, and no footprints or other evidence were found the next morning.
Vocalization near Alpine, California (1970)
A doctor in the Alpine area reported seeing several creatures on his property. On one night his wife fed chickens and later he heard a deep guttural voice mimicking her chicken call. A detective later cast tracks to support his claims.

During night infantry training, the witness and three other Marines were dug in atop a hill when they heard rocks rolling as something climbed toward them. A very large, wide figure with long arms and a pointed head stood up within a few feet of them, remained briefly as they watched in fear, then walked between their positions and disappeared over a hill behind them. The group confirmed afterward that all four had seen the same thing but agreed not to report it at the time.
