Late at night while fishing at the Kanopolis Lake spillway, the reporter noticed movement on a hill and then a large figure peeking from behind a tree about 150-200 yards away. The reporter and an adult companion watched it peek in and out for about 45 minutes, seeing red eye-shine with and without a flashlight. Near the end, the companion heard a single knock and a 3-4 second high-pitched scream from the figure's area, which the reporter could not hear over the flowing water.

The witness was deer hunting from an elevated stand near a pond late in the day. They spotted an upright, hair-covered figure by a cedar tree and watched it through a rifle scope for under a minute. After the witness disengaged the gun's safety, the figure grunted and fled into brush. The witness later found hair on a broken limb and thumb-like marks and scratches on bark where the figure had been.
Night time sighting by two witnesses at trailhead in Shawnee National Forest
The witness and her father were walking back to the trailhead parking area at night when the father noticed eyeshine in the trees to the side of the trail about 30-40 feet away. With headlamps on, they both observed shining eyes and the outline of a rounded head that turned to look at them before they turned their lights off. The figure then walked away downhill with heavy deliberate bipedal steps, paused, and remained nearby while the witness spoke softly before they left quietly. After returning home they photographed smudge marks on their vehicle that had not been noticed earlier.

The witness was camping with family and awoke early unable to sleep. While tending the fire in the early morning, she heard distant loud howls lasting several minutes, which were followed by distant dogs barking. The companion and children did not hear the sounds, but the family dog stopped and looked toward the sounds. The companion later played posted howl recordings, which the witness said were a close match.

In the fall of 1994 the witness walked into the woods behind the home at night with a flashlight and shotgun to scare deer away. He shone the light on a tall, broad, fur-covered figure standing still in brush whose eyes reflected the light. The figure grunted, yelled and moved toward him, the witness fired three times at close range then fled to the house, hearing it run and give a long loud warbling yell.

Two relatives were hunting near a river and stopped at the edge to drink when they heard brush noises from across the water. A large brown figure emerged from the brush, moved downshore and crossed to their side while running on two legs. They then crossed to the other side and headed back upstream toward their trucks without further strange encounters.
