After waiting silently, the witness heard whoop-like vocalizations above and below that seemed to communicate and track movement. The two men walked out slowly while the vocalizations followed them to the truck.
Husband and wife have a possible encounter in a KOA campground north of Crescent City
A couple camping on an isolated site finished dinner and sat by a campfire when the wife felt watched and fearful. The husband searched with lights and briefly saw movement in the trees about 30 feet away, including what looked like a large dark lower leg. While inside the trailer the wife heard two to three whooping sounds from that wooded area.

The witness was driving north on Hwy. 101 to visit a friend and pulled onto a wide spot to let faster cars pass. While stopped with the passenger window open, the witness heard an extremely loud scream and then saw a tall, dark-haired, muscular creature a few feet from the car. The creature took a couple of large steps toward the redwoods, went around a tree, and disappeared into dense brush. The encounter lasted only a few seconds and left the witness badly shaken.

The witness and two children were reading inside their trailer in the park campground one evening when they heard an extremely loud, unfamiliar echoing vocal sound described as between a cat-call and a moo. The sound seemed to come from across the river despite closed windows, and was louder than human campground noise the witness had previously heard. The witness, experienced with local wildlife sounds, said it matched nothing previously heard.

Late at night the witness and a companion sat in a parked truck at the end of a river road and heard deep howling and moaning calls from across the river. Fainter similar calls then answered from a different direction, suggesting two sources calling back and forth for about 20 seconds. The witness and a companion were walking a dog on a loop trail in redwood forest when the dog lunged up a steep embankment toward crunching and branch-breaking sounds from above. They followed a short distance to a ridge and found freshly broken lower tree branches up to about ten feet high and large human-like foot impressions in the duff that lacked claw marks. The source of the noise was gone by the time they reached the top, and they returned cross-country to the main trail.

In 1985 the witness and a companion were remote camping near Patrick Creek when they heard loud primate-like screams and conversational voices from a nearby ridge around 11 p.m. During the night the witness heard heavy tramping and deep breathing just outside the tent while a normally bold dog hid trembling inside. At dawn the witness found the campsite duff heavily scuffed with signs of foot traffic that had not been there the previous evening.

They reported seeing a pair of red glowing eyes about eight feet high that watched them for about a minute, though no body outline was visible in the dark. The group noticed many large footprints in sand along a small river leading uphill toward the forest.
