Mouth pops heard by Mountain Lion hunter near Custer State Park
The witness was concealed while hunting mountain lion and using a distressed-fawn predator call. From behind, the witness heard repeated knock-like or mouth-pop sounds from two directions, followed by deep mumbling described as an unfamiliar language. The witness saw nothing, moved into the open, then quickly hiked out and has not returned to the area.
Possible stalking outside a campers' tent in the White Knob mountains
On the last night of a camping trip, the witness lay awake in a tent around midnight and heard close footsteps and deep breathing from a large presence outside. The witness sat up, armed, and turned on a flashlight, after which all sounds stopped and a sudden intense dread lifted. No animal was seen, no odor was noticed, and nothing further happened that night.
Possible vocalizations heard by staff at Redfish Lake near Stanley
Around midnight in September, the witness was walking between facilities when loud growl-to-scream vocalizations began from a creek bed about 300 yards away. The calls repeated 10-15 times over 15-20 minutes while the source seemed to move nearer, farther, and side to side. The witness brought a neighbor outside so both heard the sounds, then returned to the cabin and kept weapons close. A next-day search of the creek bed found no tracks or other sign.
