A couple stopped their car on an isolated forest road and made whoop sounds. They heard wood knocks and strange whoop-like vocalizations answered from both downhill and uphill sides of the road. The exchange lasted about five minutes until a distant dog barked and the couple left.

The witness and his wife were hiking down from a summit in the morning when they heard non-rhythmic clapping-like sounds about 100 feet away in thicker woods, with walking and branch-breaking noises between the sounds. Further down the trail the witness tried reproducing the sound with tree knocks, rocks, and hand claps, finding cupped hand claps matched most closely.

The witness and a companion were on an overnight camping trip in a state forest. Around 2 AM the witness was half-awake in cold conditions when a loud distant noise was heard. The witness noted the time to locate the sound on an all-night audio recorder and later felt the recording sounded like a very loud distant wood knock from a large source.

Around 2:30 a.m. the witness was awakened by a loud wood knock immediately followed by a thud interpreted as a tree being pushed over, then silence.

Two people hiking near a lake in a remote state forest heard loud wood knocks and a long low-pitched howl from a ridge to the east. The sounds occurred around sundown while owls were also calling. The reporter felt the howl did not come from a coyote and noted no human habitation nearby.
