Knocks and Orbs at Spectacle Lake in Madawaska Valley
Five campers staying at Spectacle Lake reported hearing tree knocks on two consecutive nights after 10 pm, first from across the lake where they believed no other people were present and then from very close to their cottage. The reporter knocked back after the first knocks and received no reply. On the second night several campers also saw fast blue and pink flashes described as orbs and felt a presence in the dense treeline without seeing anything, reporting that they did not feel scared.

The witness was lying awake in a tent at a Rain Lake campsite with a companion already asleep when a powerful but silent ground thud was felt very close to the tent, followed by a brief skunk-like odor. Later that night the witness heard an unusually loud whoop-like sound first taken for a loon. In the morning an indistinct disturbance entering camp and a freshly snapped tree stump were found, and while hiking out the witness felt watched.

The witness was camping with a large scout group in a remote wilderness park. Late at night while several people sat around the campfire, they heard heavy bipedal footsteps pacing in dense brush beyond light range and later heard deep breathing. After most went to tents, they heard distant wolves followed by a closer deep howl that silenced the wolves, repeated more faintly. No tracks were found the next day.

Both heard a single distant wooo-like sound lasting several seconds that neither recognized as a familiar local animal. Two hunters resting on a brush pile during an archery moose hunt heard whooping vocalizations and chest-beating sounds likened to a zoo gorilla for about an hour. They did not see the source and did not investigate because they were focused on a nearby moose and darkness fell. A young bull moose in the area acted frightened and refused to approach.

The witness and two companions were burning brush outside a cottage at night when their dog growled toward the darkness, a foul feces-like odor was present, and they heard a loud snap or crack but saw nothing in vehicle lights. They went inside for the night. The next morning they found large barefoot prints in sand behind the cottage that dwarfed an adult man's size-12 foot.

Late at night at their home, the husband went outside to smoke and heard loud strange vocalizations coming from the creek area and called his wife to listen. They did not discuss it until after driving away, and the witness told no one else for almost 10 years.

The witness woke in bed at night and saw a large silhouetted figure with wide shoulders looking through a high bedroom window for about five minutes. The figure appeared to watch and breathe loudly, moving slightly when the witness moved, then turned and left. The witness ran to a parent, who went outside, saw nothing but noticed a strong smell. By morning two pet rabbits kept outside were gone, with no damage to the cage.

The witness was sewing at home late at night when her dog showed fear and she turned down the television to hear a loud, unfamiliar screeching vocalization from very close outside the house. She initially told herself it was an owl, but later comparison to owl, bobcat, lynx and cougar sounds found no match.
