The witness reports walking home alone at night on a rural dirt road when she startled a large creature near a shed. She heard a loud deep breath and grunt and felt the ground shake as the dark, muscular figure rose into a crouched gorilla-like posture about 20 feet away. The figure stared and turned its head to watch her as she moved to the far side of the road and walked quickly home while praying without running.

The witness and his wife parked along Highway 128 and walked about 150 yards into redwood forest on a trail. They reported feeling watched and feeling then hearing a low, nearly inaudible growl-grunt that grew louder over about a minute. Unable to see anything or tell the direction in dense woods, they became frightened and ran back to their car.
