A prospector camping alone in coastal mountains awoke at night to being carried inside his sleeping bag for hours to a small enclosed valley. There he encountered four hair-covered individuals described as a family group and was held for about six days living on remaining canned food. He gained favor with the younger ones using snuff and handmade utensils, then incapacitated the adult male with a large dose of snuff and escaped during the resulting commotion, hiking south to a logging camp for help.

In the headlights at a hairpin where a creek crossed the road, she saw a tall grey hairy figure bent over the creek. The group then saw a tall, broad-shouldered creature standing silently in the shadows by the smoke house watching them.
