The witness saw a big, hairy, dark figure coming down a steep embankment upright with heavy thumping steps and crashing brush. After the witness screamed the figure stopped and looked toward them, and both hikers ran away shouting about a bear.

The witness watched from a viewing tower during a storm as a tall man-like figure came down to the beach and waved its arms toward the surf. Two other people in the tower watched the figure at the same time. When a pickup truck approached with its lights on, the figure strode quickly about 30 yards to the dunes and disappeared. The witness later found torn-up sand where the figure had come down a high sand hill but left without following.
