Daylight sighting by backpacker near Pacific Crest Trail west of Independence observes two creatures during the afternoon on the PCT
On the afternoon of August 11, 2007, the witness was resting near the Pacific Crest Trail in the southern high Sierras when he noticed two upright, dark-furred figures about 200 yards away near a deep canyon. He watched for about 10 minutes as they moved around close together, apparently looking at the ground and unaware of him. After he made a coyote call, both figures quickly left his view down into the canyon.
Possible road-crossing sighting in daylight near Strawberry
The witness stopped along a one-lane road to let dogs out and glimpsed two dark figures crossing the road quickly at a curve, seeing only their upper halves. The figures disappeared around the turn and were not seen again despite visibility of the road beyond. About an hour later the witness returned and found a slide mark and a possible ball-and-toe impression on the muddy bank where the figures had crossed. The witness first took them for hooded people but later considered them possibly bigfoots due to their appearance, upright bipedal movement, and lack of a trail.
Sasquatch sighting near Kern County (2007)
The witness and two companions went night fishing for catfish along the Kern River to avoid daytime heat. After hearing an extremely loud deep roar that caused physical fear, they saw a very tall black bipedal figure across the river that shoved a large live tree until it snapped. The figure then entered the deep fast river and moved toward them with apparent ease, prompting them to abandon their gear and flee by car.
Scream in California (2007)
During a week camped with a companion, the witnesses heard many knocks and a full scream about 50 feet away just after a recorder shut off. A couple nights later they heard branches breaking approaching camp and the witness watched a soft blue ball of light move through trees and light them from close range. Only the light was visible where breaking sounds originated.
Road crossing sighting just after sundown on Hwy 108 between Strawberry and Beardsley Lake
The witness was riding in a car following friends toward a lake campground just after dark. Friends in the lead car reported something crossing the road after a bridge, and about a minute later the witness saw a tall hair-covered figure in brush beside the road that turned to look at the car before walking toward the river and into the woods. No one else in the witness's car saw it, but both occupants of the lead car said they saw it.
Possible sighting and howls heard by deer hunters in John Muir Wilderness
Two deer hunters hiking back to camp at dusk near Heart Lake heard loud bellowing howls and watched a deer flee through brush. They then saw a tall dark figure on the ridgeline that first resembled a standing bear but looked like neither a bear nor a man through a rifle scope. The figure ran downhill after the deer and disappeared into brush, and the hunters later found a very large footprint where it had stood.
Possible sighting by motorist beside Highway 101 between Orick and Trinidad
The witness was driving south on Highway 101 in the morning with her young child asleep in the car. After rounding a corner beside a lagoon, she noticed two figures in the water that she first mistook for fishermen. As she slowed and passed within about 40 feet, she described one as a tall, muscular, fur-covered figure walking toward shore while the second remained seated or stooped in the water, then she sped away frightened.

Three backpackers hiking toward Hobler Lake at dusk noticed a large reddish-brown animal moving parallel to them for about an hour. After dark the witness saw a tall, wide, long-armed furry biped watching from behind a tree, which walked away when spoken about. The group camped at the lake, later hearing disturbance sounds and finding camp items slightly moved.
Campers report possible approach in Malakoff Historical State Park
The witness was camping with a group when she heard something large run up behind her through brush downhill from the campsite. She shone a flashlight and saw a pair of reflective eyes about six feet off the ground 10-12 feet away, then panicked and retreated behind the group. The group found nothing on searching but heard quiet footsteps withdrawing and a small rock thrown behind them.
Daylight sighting by motorist near Laurel Canyon in the Mammoth Lakes area
The witness was returning down the canyon after fishing and exploring when a tall, dark, muscular creature crossed the road toward a meadow. It was watched for a few strides with a bent, arm-swinging gait, then seen crossing back at a slower pace as if avoiding an oncoming truck and people in the meadow. The witness believed they were the only observer and later found large tracks on a return visit.

The witness was driving slowly through S-turns on Highway 199 late at night with high beams on. The headlights illuminated a very large hairy biped walking on the opposite side of the road facing away. The witness watched it for a few seconds while passing close by but did not turn around for a frontal view because of the narrow canyon road and fear. The witness continued driving and later documented the sighting.
Evening sighting by a motorist near Shingletown
The witness was driving at night on a highway near Shingletown when the truck headlights illuminated a tall, dark, upright figure crossing the road. The figure reportedly walked with a very long stride and swinging arms, glanced toward the truck, then went up a roadside embankment and disappeared before the witness could speak to the passenger.
Hiking family has daytime encounter in Sierra
The witness and two relatives were hiking down from high lakes in the afternoon when they saw a large dark figure moving rapidly across a distant meadow on the far side of a river. The figure appeared to glide smoothly without bobbing, paused briefly when shouted at, then continued away and disappeared. The witnesses went down to the meadow edge but could not relocate it.

While camping alone at night near a stream, the witness heard a deep growl and saw a crouched dark mass at the treeline, fired warning shots, then heard rocks repeatedly splashing in the stream for hours and heard deep oof sounds on a later approach. Near dawn a very tall hair-covered female-like figure stood by the tent and walked rapidly toward the witness despite additional warning shots, then ran away over granite and out of sight. The witness remained in place until daylight and then hiked out.

The witness was driving east on Highway 96 at night with his daughter when headlights caught a hairy biped coming down an embankment toward the road. He stopped and watched it take a few long strides to the centerline, look toward the car, then leap off the pavement and disappear. He described it as about six feet tall, very stocky with long arms and dark brown hair, and noted its eyes did not reflect like deer eyes.
Fisherman has an evening encounter with two upright figures near Stumpy Meadows Lake
The witness stopped on the dam at Stumpy Meadows after fishing and driving back. While looking into trees about 40 yards away, the witness watched a pair of large red glowing eyes for about two minutes, then saw an upright outline step sideways behind a tree. A second, shorter set of red glowing eyes and a smaller stocky figure were then seen nearby.
Young man claims possible sighting at night near Lake Mary, outside Mammoth
The witness was staying at a cabin near Lake Mary and took two dogs for a night walk. The dogs began growling and pulling toward sounds of rustling leaves and breaking branches. The witness shone a flashlight and saw a huge ape-like but human-built figure about 200 feet away watching and swaying between trees. After a minute or two the figure turned and walked away, and the witness hurried back to the cabin.
Retired Law Enforcement Officer Has Daytime Sighting
The witness was driving east on Route 80 in daylight and pulled over on a bridge over a river ravine. He watched two large black upright forms emerge from trees on one bank, wade across the river, and disappear into trees on the other bank. He described them as unclothed, muscular and unconcerned, moving steadily without interacting or looking toward the road.
At dusk, swimmers hear vocalizations and whistles near Lake Oroville
Three people were at a lake launch ramp at dusk when the witness imitated a whistle from a recording. Movement was heard approaching through brush above the lake to within about 200 feet. A light showed eyes low along the treeline, and whistling exchanges continued until the group left in their car.
Surveyor has daytime encounter in the Tehachapi Mtns near Frazier Park
The witness was driving slowly along a ridge-line dirt road during a boundary survey at midday when a black figure was spotted among trees. Initially mistaken for a stump and then a bear, the figure was judged too thin and tall to be a bear. As the vehicle closed to close range, the figure sprinted across the road on two legs and disappeared into trees.
