On the evening of Feb. 16, 2009, the reporter's brother called to say he had seen an unknown figure in his yard near his chicken house. The figure was in profile and angled so it could watch the house and driveway, appeared aware of being seen, and was gone when the brother stepped onto his screened porch after yelling. Two dogs normally nearby were absent at the time.

The witness was hunting deer in a river basin in the evening when he heard brush breaking and later saw movement in trees about 80-90 yards away. The witness and a relative were sitting on a hill near outbuildings watching a hollow at night when a passing car's lights revealed a tall standing figure below them. Two people training a hound at night saw bluish-green eyes watching them from about 40 yards away in the woods. In fall 2008 the witness was driving a pickup slowly along a dirt road beside a creek toward a one-lane low-water bridge in the evening. Beside the bridge he saw a large shaggy figure he first took for a bear, which stood upright as he approached and watched him pass within a few feet. He described it as about eight feet tall with long arms, no visible neck, and a hairless human-like face. The figure then stepped into deep water, crossed the creek, and climbed the far bank holding trees, and was gone when the witness returned after dark.

They returned, parked, and the witness watched four dark figures on a hill about 150 feet away, with two larger standing and squatting and two smaller sitting. The witness was deer hunting in the New River Gorge when he noticed movement about 60 yards away. Looking through his rifle scope, he watched a large hand against a poplar tree and then a head with large eyes peering at him for about 20 seconds before it stepped back behind the tree. He did not shoot, heard no sounds of departure, and had to pass near the location to leave the woods.

The witness was driving east on US 33 at night with a companion dozing in the passenger seat. He saw a tall, bulky, hair-covered upright figure walking along the roadside and shouted in surprise. The vehicle behind them braked and turned on high beams, suggesting its occupants may also have seen it. The figure did not react to the cars or lights and was described as definitely not a bear, deer, or large dog.

The witness was descending from Seneca Rocks on a shortcut and became lost in rough rocky terrain. They heard heavy footsteps and branches cracking, then saw the back of a tall orange-brown haired creature moving uphill about 30 yards away. The creature continued uphill quickly over rocks and disappeared, and the witness returned to the trail to tell family.

Late at night the witness was driving with a companion toward a fishing and camping area when furry upright beings appeared in the roadway in front of the vehicle. The witness saw two beings while the companion reported a third walking ahead, and the beings looked at the vehicle before diving headfirst into roadside brush. The sighting lasted only seconds, after which the witnesses decided not to camp.

The witness was driving south on Route 55 near Seneca Rocks late at night in rain while towing a trailer when he saw a tall hair-covered biped about 20 feet away. He turned around, shined headlights and a flashlight into the woods, then heard movement through brush, vocalizations and wood pounding for several minutes before silence. He returned the next day, found apparent footprints, and photographed them.

The witness was driving alone at night on a two-lane highway when the headlights revealed a tall hair-covered figure standing on the edge line. The figure stayed motionless and stiff as the car passed very close, with the sighting lasting about ten seconds.
