They left the area, and a later return found no sign of it.

A companion reported seeing something cross the road during the footsteps and hearing a branch break nearby. Feeling they were being approached, both left the area around 12:30.

He rushed back inside, locked all doors, and stayed awake until sunrise. He then walked to a nearby town to report the incident by telephone.

A huge black blur crossed immediately in front of their vehicle too fast to follow, brushing a tree that kept rocking. Later that evening she and her husband heard prolonged loud howling and screaming from the timberline that stopped abruptly when her husband stood to leave. They left without seeing the source of the sound and later interpreted the face, odor mentioned earlier in the day, and vocalizations as related.

From a viewpoint, a relative using a spotting scope watched a large dark upright figure move across a distant meadow and later return with a smaller figure first mistaken for a stump. The group searched the area without regaining visual contact. Shortly afterward at a nearby creek, the driver found a large bare footprint in mud and made a plaster cast of it.

Four telephone-line workers heard ape-like high-pitched sounds while working on an isolated road lined with pines and brush. After the witness mimicked the sounds, a large hairy biped crossed the road about 60-70 yards away and paced back and forth, repeatedly stopping in the road to stare at the witness. The witness described upright human-like walking, long arms at the sides, hips wider than shoulders, and an extremely large foot. The animal eventually left into thick bushes leading to heavy fir.
