As a youth hunting with a small dog, the witness followed the dog down a creek and found a long dark form lying in a dugout in the bank. Looking closer the witness saw feet, a bleeding leg with sand piled on it, breathing and grumbling, and a large hand thrown behind it like a resting person. A father and son were returning from an unsuccessful hunting trip when the father stopped by a fallen tree to light his pipe and saw a tall hairy unclothed figure standing nearby. The figure vocalized loudly after noticing the man, then walked quickly toward the woods. The son joined his father and both watched the first figure and a second slightly smaller one walk along the woods edge before disappearing into the trees.

In 1884 a rural community living around Ocheesee Pond lost livestock and heard eerie nighttime calls from the water. After children were frightened by a hair-covered figure, residents formed a posse, captured it, and transported it chained to the governor in Tallahassee. The governor could not place it and sent it to the nearby Chattahoochee hospital, where it died and was buried under later construction.
