US Marine has a possible encounter with his deer kill outside Jacksonville
The witness shot a deer at dusk and dragged it toward his truck after dark. On the trail he saw a widely spaced pair of large eyes at about his own height that stayed after he fired a handgun into the ground, then left to the side through dense brush with loud crashing. He smelled a foul musky odor and found pushed-over vegetation where it left, felt watched while field-dressing the deer, and later found part of the carcass dragged about 300 yards.

On the third day they were spread out traversing a steep slope when the witness stopped to rest and heard movement in thick brush below. Something rushed from behind, knocked him into a tree, then stood over him as he lay on his stomach, vocalizing loudly when he tried to look up and swaying while breathing heavily. It glanced toward a second noise downhill, then left as the friends approached calling out, leaving the witness injured and shaken.

The witness reported stopping a vehicle at night beside a curving road to observe a tall hair-covered male figure standing nearby. The witness described looking into its eyes for an extended period and interpreting head movements and a nod as a signal to leave. The witness and a friend parked in a car on a wide tractor path near creek bottoms at night to drink before a party. A very large hair-covered biped took one long stride into the path about 20-25 feet away and faced the car for a minute or more, breathing heavily and flexing its fists. After a whistle-like sound from the woods, the creature made a dismissive huff, stepped out of sight in one stride, and left silently. The two men drove away and did not return.

The witness, a teenager on a deer-hunting trip on private wooded land in North Carolina, was waiting in a tree stand in the morning when he noticed a strong bad odor and then heard twigs snapping. He watched the upper half of a large dark-furred creature about 50 yards away standing in one spot eating leaves for several minutes before it walked away while still audible. When companions arrived he recounted the sighting and they suggested it was a bear, which he rejected because he had seen a bear earlier that day.

On a November 1976 afternoon two young men hunting squirrels walked toward a river when a large hairy biped came up from the river bottom toward them. It stopped about 30 feet away, looked at them, snapped a small dead tree and vocalized. The pair retreated over a ridge and ran, later discussing whether it had been a person in costume.

The witness, then about 12, was hunting squirrels alone in the woods behind his childhood home. After crossing a creek bridge into thick regrowth he heard rhythmic leaf-rustling and pushed through brush to within a few feet of a very large cinnamon-brown hairy animal lying flat asleep. He watched its breathing move leaves, could see only its back with legs tucked under, then backed out fearing it was a bull and told no one for decades.

Two teen relatives were in a back bedroom when dogs began making noise. They watched something come up the driveway from the cornfield, enter an open tractor shed, and toss the dogs aside. It then passed the bedroom window with its head above the window top, walking upright with a sway, before crossing a fence back to the field.
