It leaped about 20 feet into a tree over a creek, spun, steadied itself with a hand, and stared at him as he passed with high beams on.

Something gray and bulky crossed the trail, then something crashed from the trees, blew out the torch, and loomed over them as a dark mass with outstretched arms. They fled to the van, later heard something walking around and scratching the van, and next morning found scratch marks through paint.
