Family has several sightings at a summer cabin near Winamac.

During a family weekend at riverside cottages, a group of children playing outdoors screamed and pointed toward the dense woods. Adults who ran outside reported seeing a tall, dark-haired biped walking away toward the treeline, with an additional young witness seeing only its back as it entered the woods. An adult aimed a rifle but lowered it without firing, later saying he feared it might be a person.

The witness, then a child, was walking from a cornfield to a nearby house to fetch water for a cousin. At a dirt road she came within about 10 feet of two small, hairy, human-like figures standing together on the opposite side. They looked at each other for about a minute before she ran to the house, and the figures were gone when she walked back.

The witness heard whistling and chomping sounds near a creek and looked toward them. A very muscular, hairy, man-like creature was present for about two minutes before walking into the treeline at the creek edge. The witness later returned to the area and found footprints by the creek.

While searching for a rock cliff with a cave with companions in a heavily wooded mountain area, the witness noticed a muscular figure standing on a rock above them. The figure watched the group for about fifteen seconds while holding a heavy stick before stepping out of sight, after which the group fled. The witness later described the encounter to a relative who advised keeping it private.

Two boys were playing in the afternoon near a slate dump and coal mine entrance when they saw an upright gray-white ape-like creature standing at the mine mouth with an arm resting on a high timber. They watched each other briefly while it moved its arm, and the boys became frightened and ran to get parents. When they returned, the creature was gone.

A young girl picking blueberries alone near dark felt watched and saw a figure crouched in the patch that slipped into brush. Moments later she saw a very tall, hair-covered, man-like figure by a tree that ducked behind it, then followed her at a distance as she ran home screaming. Her relatives later searched the site armed and reported matted brush with a bad odor.

Daylight sighting by rancher on Mt. Graham

A rancher riding on horseback to check cattle reportedly saw a large, dark-brown, furry, upright creature walking on two legs. The witness claimed long familiarity with bears and insisted it was not a bear. When the creature realized it had been spotted, it turned and ran uphill into a steep, tree-lined canyon. The incident was dated to about 1950 and was retold decades later by a local who had heard the story lifelong.

Daylight sighting on the edge of Sespe Creek (CA Condor Refuge), in Los Padres National Forest

The witness was riding horseback on a forest trail toward a stream while camping. From about 50 yards away the witness saw three hair-covered creatures crouched drinking, then standing after noticing the witness. After an exchanged hand greeting, the tallest led the two smaller ones away up the trail, and the witness later rode to the stream without seeing them again.

A group of young people were swimming when one girl sitting at a picnic table screamed after seeing a large hairy figure watching through bushes. When she screamed it replaced the branches to cover its face and left. She was hysterical and only described what she saw after calming down elsewhere.

The driver was going home alone on a cold rainy night and caught a brief glimpse in the headlights of a very large hairy figure standing in bushes off the road. Something long with hanging white hair appeared to be tucked under its arm. Days later the driver learned an elderly neighbor who kept goats had disappeared and a separate violent death had occurred nearby.

In summer 1944, the 9-year-old witness and his cousin were playing in a woodlot on a family farm, knocking dead saplings against live trees. They stopped and saw a huge man-like figure standing broadside nearby looking at them, which then turned and walked away. The boys ran out and told their mothers, who dismissed it as a neighbor, and the witness says they avoided that part of the woods afterward.

After the driver reboarded saying a big ape had almost gotten him, the bus started moving and the witness and a relative watched a large ape-like figure cross the highway behind the bus and enter the woods on the other side. Other passengers including parents also saw the start of the crossing.
