In 1980 two men claiming to be Smithsonian field agents visited the grandmother's farm for two days after magazine coverage. They toured the garden and orchard, noted twisted limbs, cast footprints and a supposed sitting impression, collected hair and produce, and recorded audio. At night the family showed them figures with a spotlight, with up to three seen, and the visitors played a scream recording that was followed by distant chatter.

One evening during dinner the son pointed to a bay window and the father saw a three-foot-tall hairy human-like being by an outdoor spigot apparently chattering to others below. It made eye contact, widened its eyes, leaned back, and dropped from view. The father later found a rock-covered hole in the barn opening to caverns with strong odor, and a neighbor warned that dwarves lived under the old ruined house.

The wife reports things running across the roof, chattering like chimps, tracks everywhere, and a fast blur-like run-past with long hair, plus a game-camera image of a gorilla-like figure with long mop-like head hair. There are said to be three individuals of different colors.
