At the time he dismissed it as a bear, but later interpreted the long arms and quadrupedal run as Sasquatch-like.

The witness, then a child, was wading a shallow creek fishing while the older cousin fished separately. The witness heard bipedal splashes and watched a huge hair-covered human-like figure cross the creek, climb the high bank, and eat fish from the stringer. The figure looked back and forth between the witness and the approaching cousin, then took the stringer and left the way it came. The cousin called it by a local name, said it was a Bigfoot, and made the witness swear never to mention it.

The witness tried to parallel it to see through an opening but only caught a brief flash of light auburn hair. After circling, the witness found a wet step on a root and bark pulled back where something appeared to have climbed out, but saw nothing further.

A deer bolted from the edge of a thicket, followed by a black shaggy biped that ran between dense thickets while angling away. One tethered horse was so frightened it jumped over another horse. The witness concluded the figure could not have been a bear because of the sound it made and the way it ran.
