A man hunting small game claimed a tall, fully hairy figure walked across a dirt road near Skilak Lake. The figure paused, looked in his direction appearing surprised, then left swiftly into the woods. The witness watched from a few hundred yards away in daylight, loaded his shotgun because he was unsure of intent, and later chose not to tell authorities for fear of disbelief.

In fall 2000 the wife reportedly saw a large dark figure walk across a field about 300 yards from home and into woods bordering a lake. The brief 3-5 second view was described as taller than five feet based on fence posts, stocky with very large shoulders, dark brown to black hair, and walking on two legs, causing an initial bear impression to be dismissed. The account was submitted by her husband along with later family experiences in the same wooded swamp-lake area.

They observed it walk several hundred feet along the river bank before it went out of sight around a bend. A tall shape then appeared at the side window, and they remained huddled inside without sleep until morning.
