The witness was camping with a companion when he repeatedly heard twigs snapping in the woods at night. Around 3:30 a.m. he shone a flashlight into the woods and saw a 7-foot-tall furry figure about 50 feet away with its back turned. After about a minute and a half the figure crouched defensively, and when the witness returned with a gun it was gone and no footprints were found.

Over two afternoons they heard loud primate-like calls and screams around camp, and during two nights they heard conversational vocalizations, rhythmic rock-clicking, and stealthy footfalls that alarmed horses. They also detected red eyeshine and later found a fresh animal bed overlooking the camp. They left early, concluding no conclusive evidence was obtained but the area warranted further investigation.
