Two hikers were descending a road when they heard multiple loud tree knocks, had rocks thrown past them, smelled an intense stench, and one of them saw a dark figure watching. They fled downhill toward their vehicle while using an air horn, heard a loud guttural whoop near the car, and reported being followed for several miles.

On a rainy afternoon a woman who was home alone heard two whoops from the tree line behind her house. She looked up and watched a tall, dark-haired figure step out of the trees, walk five long steps to the side while looking down, and step back into the forest. She called a relative to return home, and a later visit to the spot found trampled vegetation, stacked broken limbs, and a strong odor.

The witness camped alone at a remote alpine lake and saw a black shiny shape on a ridge during a day hike that stayed motionless when called to. That evening while cooking the witness heard a loud screech, then after dark was awakened by extremely loud cracks followed by falling rocks, with a second closer event about 40 minutes later. The witness stayed awake afraid until daylight and left quickly in the morning.

Three hunters camped in a river bottom over the opening weekend of bow season. Over several days and nights they reported heavy impacts, rustling, a skunk-like odor, red eyeshine, wood knocks, whistles, talk-like mumbling, a whoop-ending vocalization, and bent trees and branch structures. The most intense moment was a predawn episode with a deep guttural roar followed by a scream-like sound near camp. They left early after smelling the odor again near a plum thicket.
