In March 1997, two sisters driving to their mother's house encountered a large hairy figure sitting beside a dirt road. When headlights illuminated it, the figure stood to seven feet or taller and then moved toward the river. The witnesses were frightened and said it was neither a bear nor a human.

The witness was camped alone at the intersection of four logging roads in Northern California, tending a campfire late at night. He became aware of a pair of reflective eyes watching him from behind a bush about 70 feet away and watched them for over an hour as the fire died down until they disappeared. In the morning he found large foot-shaped flattened grass impressions leading to and from the spot behind the bush.

Feeling as if watched, the witness turned and saw a large brown bipedal creature squatted on the path. The creature stood, moved quickly and silently up a brushy embankment and disappeared. The witness then found a single dark stool on the path where the creature had been.

The witness was part of a demolitions training convoy descending to a staging area when three hair-covered bipedal creatures were seen watching from the middle of a quarry. The middle individual was tallest and stood still while the two smaller flankers rocked side to side. The daytime sighting lasted about 25-30 seconds, shortly after a whoop-like sound was heard from beyond the work area.

Something ahead screamed and howled, and a flashlight revealed eye reflections several feet off the ground. They retreated to the stream and at daylight saw dark fur moving through deadfalls in the distance.

In the early afternoon the witness was about to enter brush ringing a stream inlet when a very tall, hair-covered human-like figure came within about 20 feet at a slow walk. The witness described its size, hair, facial features and muscular build, noting it was defensive but not threatening and made no sound. The witness withdrew to a truck without being followed, and also noted a very large track, sand mounds, possible vomit and scat, and bark damage in the same area.

Two boys walking home late at night were followed by a large dark figure that kept pace with them without running. They fled to a neighboring house, where the resident let them in and all three watched the figure stand in the front yard about 12 feet from the porch before it crossed the road and descended an embankment toward the river plain. At dawn a neighbor was called and later found large footprints that were traced downriver until they entered the water.

The witness hiked to a deserted mine on a mountain in the afternoon and encountered an upright hair-covered female creature at close range. The creature approached, squatted to strip and eat leaves, noticed the witness, vocalized, and walked away into timber, later appearing briefly on a distant ridge. The witness considered shooting it for science but refrained, then examined droppings and a bedding spot.

While deer hunting from an old road overlooking a clearing, the witness heard loud crashing moving down through a cedar thicket over about ten minutes. A black, bipedal figure then stepped out and walked quickly across the clearing. The witness left without checking for tracks, and a companion later reported loose scat with grass and hair in the crossing area.

Guiding a night group, the guest used a thermal and saw a large figure step from behind a pine about 100 yards away, then a second smaller one peeking. They watched 15 minutes until the battery died, heard movement, screaming and chatter for hours, and next morning found scat and hundreds of footprints over their tracks.

The witness returned with a friend and camped, heard footsteps by the tent at night, then walked alone across the creek on a foggy morning. He found a footprint, droppings and a dead smell, listened to heavy breathing behind a thicket for hours, heard a vocalization and a stick hitting a tree, then saw a head peering from behind a large pine. He viewed it through his rifle scope, saw teeth, then walked toward the trail as it left on two legs, and it paralleled him back toward camp.

Acting on a report and video of a large primate chasing deer, a group searched a Florida forest at night. The witness saw two heat signatures on thermal near a tree, then a tall figure ran toward other team members and away, leaving scat. The sample was collected from the wrong end and was never submitted for testing.
