The witness and a companion went into woods behind a relative's house to investigate dead fish found earlier by a pond. While the companion stepped away, the witness heard a noise and saw a furry figure peeking from behind a tree 50 to 75 yards away. The figure stepped sideways into full view, and the witness fled running back to the house. The companion did not see the creature.

Shortly after rounding a curve they watched a small dark short-haired quadruped cross from left to right into the woods. The witness was fishing downstream from family members when he briefly saw the lower legs of a dark figure stepping from the creek onto the bank and into dense brush. He searched the spot and found wet marks on rocks, disturbed soil, and dung, which companions helped videotape. He concluded the figure was unlikely to be human given the remote, rugged terrain.
