While driving at night from Florida, the driver glimpsed a blood-covered man in old uniform standing in a ditch and called 911 to report an injured person. During the call something heavy hit the truck bed, a pale face appeared at the rear window, and pounding and scratching hit the cab roof. The driver accelerated then braked hard, throwing a tall scrawny long-limbed figure over the hood into the road, which stood and ran to the woods. Officers later saw scratch marks on the cab roof.

The witness was driving slowly on a main road through National Forest late at night when headlights illuminated an upright figure behind a guardrail on a steep bank. He observed its back, broad shoulders, and reddish-brown hair for a few seconds before driving past, then turned around but it was gone. He stayed in the area for hours making calls that drew coyote and owl-like responses, and returned the next day with a companion to search for tracks without success.

The witness and two friends were on a three-day hiking and camping trip in the mountains near Asheville. On the third day they were spread out traversing a steep slope when the witness stopped to rest and heard movement in thick brush below. Something rushed from behind, knocked him into a tree, then stood over him as he lay on his stomach, vocalizing loudly when he tried to look up and swaying while breathing heavily. It glanced toward a second noise downhill, then left as the friends approached calling out, leaving the witness injured and shaken.

Early in the morning the witness took the dog out to the end of the driveway before work. The dog alerted toward the treeline, then the witness heard a loud howl and wood-on-wood sounds very close and glimpsed a figure by a tree. After going back inside and leaving again, the witness heard footsteps in the dark and saw a huge dark upright figure moving along the fence and driveway by a pond, later noticing a foul odor and disturbed leaves in the area.

The witness was driving toward the beach at dusk when a large hairy creature stood in the road. The car glanced the creature, then the witness stopped and the creature got up, approached, and chased the car, striking the rear. The witness drove away and later found a dented quarter panel with hair, a shattered spoiler, and a lingering foul smell on the car.

The witness was driving north on US-17 near Holly Ridge around 1 a.m. after a day trip when headlights illuminated a large hairy bipedal figure walking south on the shoulder. The witness slowed to near walking speed and observed the upper body and face clearly for about fifteen seconds as it continued forward without reacting to the car. After passing, the witness stopped, looked back in the brake lights, and woke a companion who also looked but thought it was a bear.

The witness was walking on dirt roads in the early morning and crouched in a cornfield to avoid oncoming vehicle headlights. While crouched, the witness smelled a bad mildew-like odor and then saw a large hairy figure standing motionless at the mountain edge about 30 to 40 feet away. The two stared at each other before the witness ran to the road, hit a barbed-wire fence, and fled.

Four people camped in a van by the lake and walked up a logging trail with torches. The dog ran ahead and fled yelping to the house. Something gray and bulky crossed the trail, then something crashed from the trees, blew out the torch, and loomed over them as a dark mass with outstretched arms. They fled to the van, later heard something walking around and scratching the van, and next morning found scratch marks through paint.
Growl in North Carolina
After evening-shooting a large deformed buck that ran into the woods, the guest returned at dawn and crawled into a low briar tunnel to follow blood. A tremendous growl vibrated through him, heavy stomping approached, and a towering shadow loomed over his back with visible flexing fingers. He talked calmly while backing out, then fled. Two days later he found only the deer's ripped-off head with crumbling bone.
