She stayed quiet overnight hearing howls and screams, and her friend found suspicious tracks and hair the next morning.

A strong odor was noticed and large footprints were found the next day.

Later, while in a tent, the witness saw the firelight blocked by a squatting silhouette that touched the zipper with five digits, with felt breath and strong odor, before withdrawing. In the morning the witness noted hairs and deep depressions on the trail.

The witness approached and found a crouched hairy animal that then stood upright on two feet and ran into the woods, knocking down trees amid screaming. Over several nights a loud screaming vocalization was heard around 9 p.m. and the uncles repeatedly chased the source uphill. One uncle confronted a very tall hair-covered biped at close range and fired over its head, while later nights brought a spotlight glimpse of a large dark mass, a small 4-foot figure, answering calls from another ridge, uprooted trees and reddish hair tufts, before the activity moved away.

After hearing scream-like sounds earlier in the evening, the witness lay awake and watched a tall figure move behind a windbreak, squat to rummage through a pack, then stand and walk away. The witness woke the companion, who did not see the figure but both heard movement in the trees. In the morning the pack contents were scattered and only cookies were missing from their package.

At age 15 the guest was fishing alone at a creek near his father's house when he heard whoops and saw a large hairy figure behind a sycamore. He confronted it with a .22 rifle, and after it growled and roared he shot it in the throat, then in the hand, then multiple times in the chest as it screamed, broke saplings, and ran straight through a barbed-wire fence across a hay meadow. Later that day his father found broken trees, blood and hair on the sycamore, and blood and hair on the broken fence wires.
