The witness later interpreted the animal as an elderly, starving individual possibly seeking chickens during severe winter weather.

The witness was sitting on a picnic table overlooking the lake and scanning the far treeline with binoculars while a relative photographed nearby. She noticed what looked like a dark head and upper body peeking from beside a tree across the lake, watched it for several minutes, then found it gone after looking away and back. She mentioned it to the relative, who searched with a camera lens but saw nothing.
Campers hear footfalls, rock clicking and find foorprints
The witness was camping overnight with friends in the Mount Baker National Forest near the river. Between 2 and 3 a.m. she heard movement approach her tent and brush against it, while a companion in a truck reportedly felt a nudge and saw a fleeting shadow. About 30 feet away both companions saw a very large dark hairy upright figure step from behind a tree and disappear quickly into the woods. They screamed and ran back in panic, and the group stayed camped through heavy rain that evening.

The witness pulled to the side of a road near woods and a river around 9 p.m. to relieve himself. The accompanying dog began growling and barking, and the witness saw a very large figure cross the road in about two steps and disappear into the woods about 30 yards away. When the witness walked toward the spot with the dog and a flashlight, the dog refused to advance, a strong musky smell was noticed, and cracking sounds in the vegetation moved toward them, prompting the witness to return to the car and drive away.

The witnesses were having lunch outdoors when they noticed a dark figure standing erect and moving quickly uphill across a snow and ice field below a mountain. They watched it for several minutes until it went over a ridge, concluding its speed and sustained upright posture were unlike a person or bear. A ranger suggested a bear, but no one else present reported seeing the object.

Late at night the witness was driving home with an infant passenger on a wooded road with a guardrail and creek. A dark figure crouched by the guardrail stood, raised its arms, then lay down in the lane and the car drove over it. The witness left the scene out of fear, later reported hitting a bear, but no record of the call or physical trace was found the next day.

The adult reportedly maintained eye contact, brought the child into view briefly, and kept a hand on it before the child moved back behind the tree. The witness and two companions were talking on a porch in the afternoon when they noticed three brownish figures moving on a nearby foothill for about ten minutes. They walked to the spot after the figures left and found a heap of branches resembling a bed, with some branches torn from trees high off the ground. The witness noted an absence of claw marks or bear prints and questioned how the branches could have been placed without tools.

In the middle of the night the witness awoke to hissing sounds and saw a broad-shouldered silhouetted figure about 20 feet away behind a fence for several minutes. The figure then turned and left silently, after which rapid clicking sounds like rocks striking were heard moving away across the river.
Motorist surprises animal crossing freeway
About 25 years ago on a summer night, the witness was driving north on I-5 south of Bellingham when an animal ran across the freeway from left to right. He swerved to avoid it and saw it in the headlights running on all fours, noting reddish fur, a higher shoulder line, and a flat ape-like face with large eyes. He first thought it was a large dog then a young bear before concluding its face did not match either. He did not stop, and his passenger slept through the incident.
