Hunters in the Big Cypress National Preserve observe large biped traversing their recent path
The witness and a relative were hunting and crossing an open field to leave around dusk. The witness, waiting alone in the open, saw a distant figure walking with large steps along their earlier path and then standing behind a tree watching and moving its head side to side. After the relative rejoined and looked toward it, both ran to the trail and got a ride out from a passing couple.
Daytime sighting near Everglades National Park
The witness was riding in a car with two relatives to launch a boat when they noticed roadside onlookers with cameras and binoculars. The witness then saw a tall, muscular, dark-furred figure standing in shallow water near trees about 50 yards from the road. The figure reportedly stood still as they passed and was still visible as they drove away, while the companions thought it was a bear or deer.
Early morning encounter during a rest stop near Florida City
Two friends drove into the Everglades park in the early morning and parked at a pine habitat to nap in their car. They were awakened by an ape-like animal looking into the tinted windows, touching the car, and then rummaging through a nearby dumpster for an extended period while emitting a strong rotten odor. The animal eventually walked away howling, and the witnesses drove to Flamingo where they reported the encounter to rangers.
