Morning hike turns a veterinarian and her family into believers near Missoula
Three witnesses hiking on a ridge trail around noon stopped and watched a large dark object standing motionless beside power poles on a distant ridge for several minutes. The object then turned, took several large steps with visible arm and leg motion, and disappeared over the ridge. The daughter took a phone photo as it disappeared that was described as showing head and shoulders, and later took a comparison photo of the empty ridge.

The witness's mother reportedly saw a tall, broad, fully hair-covered figure near the yard totem pole in the night, and a pulled-apart rabbit was found at the spot the next morning.

While riding a horse on a ridge, the witness saw a tall black upright figure walking below the opposite ridgeline. The witness moved higher for a better view, after which the figure turned and ran toward cover and disappeared. The witness first thought of a bear but judged the upright posture and running speed to be inconsistent with a bear.

On a sunny mid-July 2004 afternoon the witness went to sit on the back porch after the dogs barked then whined at the dog door. From about 200-300 yards away she watched a tall rust-colored hairy biped peeking around a tree and swaying to watch her for about six minutes, later stepping in front of the tree while staying hunched. After checking children in the front yard she found it gone, and later found flattened grass and knapweed at the tree.

When the witness was about 10 or 11, they were riding a horse through a meadow bordering wilderness near Missoula in summer. The horse stopped and the witness saw a tall figure peeking from behind a tree about 10 feet away. The figure stood silently watching, and the witness turned the horse around and rode home.
